The Lecturer in Special Needs Education (Visual Impairment) will provide specialized instruction, training, and mentorship to students in the School of Education, particularly those pursuing careers in inclusive and special needs education. The role includes preparing and delivering lectures, conducting research, supervising projects, and offering guidance on best practices for supporting learners with visual impairments in mainstream and special schools.
Key Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in special needs education with a focus on visual impairment
Develop curricula and learning materials that integrate inclusive pedagogical approaches
Supervise students’ research projects, teaching practice, and community-based attachments
Engage in scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals
Provide advisory and mentorship support to students pursuing careers in special needs education
Collaborate with professional bodies, NGOs, and government agencies working in the disability and education sector
Requirements
PhD in Special Needs Education (Visual Impairment specialization) from a recognized university
Master’s degree in Special Needs Education with at least a specialization in visual impairment (mandatory for consideration if PhD in progress)
Evidence of teaching experience at university level (minimum 3 years)
Record of publications in refereed journals in the area of special education
Experience working with visually impaired learners in formal or non-formal education settings
Strong communication, mentorship, and research supervision skills
