Our client, a fast-growing clean energy and technology startup, is seeking an experienced and driven
Business Development & Sales Lead
to spearhead commercial growth from their Nairobi base. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving B2B sales, partnerships, and customer acquisition across the renewable energy ecosystem. He/She will lead the development and execution of the company’s go-to-market strategy, strengthen its value proposition, and position its solar forecasting, project sizing, and e-commerce solutions as essential tools for solar developers, EPCs, and energy operators.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and execute a B2B sales and business development strategy targeting solar developers, EPCs, minigrid operators, IPPs, and other renewable energy stakeholders.
• Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and strategic alliances within the solar and energy markets.
• Build, manage, and maintain a strong sales pipeline using CRM tools, ensuring consistent deal flow and accurate forecasting.
• Establish and nurture long-term relationships with prospective and existing clients to drive repeat business and platform adoption.
• Create and deliver compelling sales presentations, product demonstrations, and commercial proposals.
• Collaborate closely with the product and technology teams to align customer feedback with product development and value proposition refinement.
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, customer needs, and emerging opportunities.
• Own revenue targets, sales KPIs, and commercial performance metrics.
• Prepare and present regular sales reports, pipeline updates, and revenue forecasts to leadership.
• Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and partner forums to build brand visibility and generate leads.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Energy, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in B2B sales, business development, or commercial leadership roles.
• Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets in a startup, scale-up, or high-growth environment.
• Strong industry network within the solar, renewable energy, or cleantech ecosystem (minigrids, EPCs, IPPs, developers).
• Experience selling technical solutions, platforms, or SaaS products is a strong advantage.
• Excellent negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical ability with experience in market segmentation and opportunity assessment.
• Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
