Job Summary
The Research Assistant Nurse will support the implementation of a pregnancy–birth cohort study in Isiolo County. The role involves recruitment and follow-up of pregnant mothers, provision of maternal and newborn healthcare services, biological sample collection, community engagement, and high-quality data collection in accordance with study protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Review and adhere to study protocols, SOPs, informed consent processes, and data collection tools.
Conduct antenatal, maternal, newborn, and child health assessments, including clinical evaluations and monitoring of vital signs and growth indicators.
Support normal deliveries in maternity settings in collaboration with facility staff.
Collect, process, record, and store biological samples such as cord blood and placental tissue.
Ensure accurate documentation of study data and timely reporting of adverse events.
Participate in community engagement activities using culturally appropriate and respectful communication.
Maintain high standards of research ethics, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
Provide regular progress updates and submit timely reports to the research team.
Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Experience & Skills
At least two (2) years of experience in maternal, newborn, and child health.
Demonstrated competence in midwifery practice.
Experience using tablet-based or electronic data collection systems such as REDCap.
Willingness to work in remote locations within Isiolo County.
Previous research or cohort study experience is desirable.
Training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research ethics is an added advantage.
Fluency in English and Swahili; knowledge of Borana is an advantage.
