Under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator for the Regional Office for Africa (ROA), the incumbent will contribute to strengthening UNEP’s regional scientific capacity and science-policy interface. Responsibilities include:

Supporting integration of science-based environmental dimensions into Africa’s regional and national policy planning, including through UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks.

Providing technical support to UN Country Teams (UNCT), including producing/updating National Environment Summary reports.

Contributing to regional environmental assessments and science-policy engagements.

Enhancing the capacity of Member States and stakeholders to apply environmental information for evidence-based decision-making.

Supporting science-policy reporting, including progress reports, briefs, and other materials.

Strengthening stakeholder engagement and providing science-policy perspectives for strategic decision-making.

Performing other duties assigned by senior management.

Qualifications & Skills

Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in environment, sustainable development, environmental assessment, management, or economics.

Minimum five years of progressive experience in environmental policy and natural resource management.

Experience in UN systems, particularly the UN Resident Coordinator System, is required.

Knowledge of UNEP’s New Delivery Model Policy and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks is desirable.

Data analytics or business analytics experience is an advantage.
